Texas RV Insurance

Like all motor vehicles, recreational vehicles (RVs) need insurance—and not just because it is required by law. RV insurance is an essential piece of protection against wrecks and other hazards. Whether you use your RV periodically or live in it full-time, you can rely on your insurance policy to help you if something goes wrong.

Texas drivers trust Lone Star Insurance Agency with all of their motor vehicle insurance needs, and we’re here to help you get the ideal RV policy. Just contact us today or come by our Cleburne or Burleson office, and you’ll be on your way to optimized coverage in no time.

What Is RV Insurance?

RVs are motor vehicles like any other. However, their unique uses and features pose considerable additional risk to their owners. As a result, they cannot be insured with standard auto insurance. Rather, owners must buy RV insurance. The plan will help you pay for losses like vehicle damage, accident injuries and liability lawsuits. With it, you won’t have to worry about how you’ll afford these unexpected costs.

What Do RV Policies Cover?

RV policies include coverage that will protect against both driving and residential risks associated with the vehicle. Coverage to carry within your plan may include:

  • Liability insurance—Insures you against property damage or bodily injuries that you cause others (e.g., other drivers) if you are atfault for a wreck.
  • Collision insurance—Covers damage to your own vehicle after a wreck.
  • Comprehensive insurance—Pays for vehicle damage from nonaccident mishaps, such as weather damage. This coverage does not include collision coverage.
  • Contents insurance—Covers damage to personal items carried within your RV.
  • Medical payments coverage—Pays for your medical bills and those of your passengersfor injuries sustained in a wreck.
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM)insurance—Insures you against damage caused by someone else who doesn’t have appropriate liability coverage.
  • Campsite and vacation coverage—Covers liabilities associated with using the RV as a vacation property. For example, if a visitor to your campsite gets hurt, this coverage can compensate them for their losses.
  • Full-time residence insurance—Offers more comprehensive coverage if you live in the RV permanently. It will protect you from property damage risks, accidents and personal liabilities that full-timers are more likely to face.

Other coverage to consider adding to your policy includes roadside assistance, rental car coverage and emergency expenses protection.

Is RV Insurance Required in Texas?

By law, all Texas drivers are required to carry auto insurance, and RV operators are subject to the same requirements if their RVs can be driven on their own. A tow-trailer RV is not required to have insurance, although the vehicle towing the RV is.

Your RV policy must contain at least the following coverage:

  • Bodily injury liability coverage—$30,000 per person/$60,000 per accident
  • Property damage liability insurance—$25,000 per accident

Some drivers must carry collision and comprehensive coverage if they finance or lease their vehicles. Speak to your agent to determine if additional coverage requirements apply to your vehicle.

Keep in mind that it is always recommended you carry more than just the minimum level of coverage on your policy. The more coverage you have, the more compensation you might be able to receive for a claim. Let your Lone Star Insurance Agency agent guide you through the process of getting the perfect policy.
